hello,
i have a doubt that Why are the foundation of the lathe machines are made of CAST IRON not of concrete
?

Re: lathe
hello priyanka,
Your doubt is related to mechanical vibrations.since in lathe the machining is done by the rotation of the workpiece ,so,due to rotating component vibations are produced. Now if the vibrations are not absorbed somehow, then stress can be generated in different parts of lathe which can cause demage. And it is required to damp the mechanical vibration. So,foundation of the heavy mechanical equipment works as damper for the mechanical vibrations. And Cast Iron works as best mechanical damper in lathe m/c as compare to concrete.

Re: lathe
Rake angle of tool plays a significant role in minimizing the cutting force in turning operation. But the larger valur of rake angle can make the tool to dig into the workpiece. And brass is more ductile as compare to some materials like CAST IRON .So to minimize the chance of tool to dig and formation of continous chips also, the zero rake angle tool is used for turning of brass material.
