hello nitin ,
Nowadays, every R&D based company use the CAD software for designing and manufacturing.so with this widespread use of CAD proper communication and exchange of data has become a problem. To overcome this problem ,IGES and PDES format are designed for exchange of data on common platform.
IGES stands for Initial Graphics Exchange Specification which is widely used for 3-d line and suface data. And PDES stands for Product Data Exchange Specification which is based on IGES.

IGES is used for translation of 3-Dline and surface data.
