My Question is Which type of Weld joint is used if plate thickness is less than 5 mm?

Square butt weld joint can be used when two plate are placed side by side with their edges touching each other.

You can weld 2 plates side by side by using single V butt joint.

You can use single U butt joint, single V butt joint or square but joint to weld two plates.
